In 1856, a young slave named Samuel joins the multitudes running north to Canada and to freedom. Hunted by slave traders, he must make the choice between revenge and freedom. In 1748, John Newton becomes the captain of a slave ship and wrestles with his soul over its human cargo, including Samuel’s great-grandfather.
Directed by Peter Cousens and starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Mann, Bernhard Forcher, and William Sadler, Freedom weaves together these two stories in a tale of freedom, not only of body, but also of soul. Look for this film to arrive in US theaters in early 2015.
