You know God has a plan for your kid’s lives. You believe it to be true, and yet, do you really live in the reality that God Most High is intimately involved in guiding you–and your children to live out His plan for their lives?

As a young mother, I had to learn to trust God to work out His plan in my children’s lives–according to His ways, not my own. And the best way to train my children to follow God’s plan for their lives was to teach them from the Bible how very much God is involved in the lives of those who are His children.

The first insight I wanted my kids to have is that God loves them dearly. Teaching your kids how much God values them–so much so that He sent His Son to purchase them with His blood–is greater than any treasure this world can offer. And teaching your children that God has a specific purpose for their lives is key to helping them become all God plans for them to be in their generation.

As an architect of the next generation, it is your job to help your kids understand how very much involved the Lord is in helping them accomplish what He put them on earth to do. May you never become complacent to a God who knows you so intimately He prepared good works for you–and your kids–to walk in before the very foundations of the world!

When my kids were growing up, I remember how many times they would ponder what decision would be best for them. For example: What classes should I take?–What boy should I date?–What does God want me to do with my life?

While you cannot help them know every answer for life’s questions, you can teach your kids to trust in God’s promises, and to realize He is intricately involved in the details of their lives–if they would but follow His leading.

Here are some valuable insights you can teach your kids to help guide them toward no regrets lives:

1. Surrendering to Christ as Lord and Savior is the first step in becoming the person God intends you to be. Ephesians 2:10 says, We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

2. You are not just a face in the crowd

God is acquainted with all your ways.

O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways (see Ps 139:1-4).

2. God loves you more than you can imagine.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus (see Eph. 2:4-5,17-19).

3. You are a temple of the living God–You are not your own.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

4. God chose you to be His child.

And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty (see 2 Corinthians 6:18; Ephesians 1:4-6).

5. God is watchful over your every trial and opportunity.

The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry (Ps. 34:15).

6. God will direct your steps.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go: I will guide you with My eye (Ps.32:8).

I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps (Jeremiah 10:23).

7. God has a specific purpose for your life.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not harm you, to give you a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

Looking back over the years I know these insights helped remind my children to trust God when they were looking for answers to life’s questions. Even when they were away at college, these Scriptures were often what I texted to them in times they were seeking direction.

Helping your children apply God’s Word to their lives is vital to training them to live in a manner worthy of their calling (see Ephesians 4:1). And remember, even though a mother’s words have influence, it is God’s Word that has the power to change lives!

Isaiah 55:11

So shall My Word be that goes out from My mouth;

it shall not return to Me empty,

but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,

and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
