Cameron defends his view on gay marriage.

The gifted actor Kirk Cameron was best known for his role as Mike Seaver on the sitcom Growing Pains, from 1985–1992. As an adult, Kirk portrayed Cameron “Buck” Williams in the Left Behind film series, and in 2008 he brought audiences to their feet in his moving role of Caleb Holt in the 2008 Christian film “Fireproof.

Currently he is also co-host (with Ray Comfort) of the reality television show and evangelism ministry “The Way of The Master.” Cameron and his wife of 21 years, Chelsey Noble have six kids.

In a recent interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, Cameron was scheduled to discuss his upcoming film “Monumental and had requested in advance not to be questioned about social issues like gay marriage and birth control.

But in what appeared to be a premeditated script to antagonize Cameron and mock his Christian beliefs, Piers Morgan repeatedly asked Cameron about his opinions on homosexuality. In the live interview, Cameron, a well known born again Christian, said he believed homosexuality is “unnatural,” and that he does not support gay marriage.

Kirk Cameron sat for an interview with Ann Curry a few days afterward. Curry asked him to comment on the firestorm in the media that followed his recent comments about homosexuality during the interview with Piers Morgan.

Here is part of Kirk’s response:

“I was surprised, frankly, that people were surprised by the things that I’ve said. I have been consistent for 15 years as a Christian. I’m a Bible-believing Christian. What I would have thought was more newsworthy is if I had said something that contradicted the word of God, if I had contradicted my faith.”

What disheartens me, to be honest with you, is that when you’re sitting across the table from someone who knows what your perspective is on issues — and I’ve been very consistent, I don’t think anything I said surprised anybody as a Bible-believing Christian — but to then take some answers, reduce an important and personal and sensitive issue to a four-second soundbite, and toss it into a community to start a political bonfire and really upset people that you’re saying you’re looking to protect, I think it’s disingenuous.”

In Denny Burk’s March 20th blog, he wrote “Cameron is on to something here. Our culture is not threatened by those who abandon the Christian faith, but by those who uphold it. It is not newsworthy that liberal mainline churches have abandoned Christianity’s 2,000-year-old sexual ethic or that Roman Catholic politicians routinely take stands that contradict their church’s teaching. What is newsworthy is that there are still some Christians who will not change their beliefs in order to accommodate the ever-shifting sexual mores of the prevailing culture.”

“It’s not Christianity that has changed. Our culture’s tolerance of it certainly has.” Burk continued.

“I have really been impressed with Cameron through all of this. In spite of being unfairly tarred and feathered as a hateful bigot, he somehow keeps coming back with a smile and a gracious word. Good for him.” We couldn’t agree with Burk more!

What were your thoughts on the interview and the way Kirk Cameron handled the media?

[…] Cameron came under fierce attack for standing up for his biblical beliefs on social issues in an interview with Piers Morgan on CNN, when Morgan repeatedly pressed Cameron for his views on marriage and homosexualty. You can watch this clip of the interview here: Kirk Cameron Interview with Piers Morgan. […]

Although I personally would never have thought of it in time, I think when Piers asked Kirk, “What would you say if your son……..I would say, that’s good son, as long as your happy”, Kirk should have responded,”‘Well, Piers, what would you say if your son came to you and said, ‘Daddy, I’m a sinner and I need a saviour. Oh, and Daddy, so do you!'”?

Good for you Cameron! It’s imperative to stand firm and stand tall for your Christian beliefs, what a Savior, nothing this world thinks should ever alter our commitment to Him! If we study the Word of God and know His teachings, we know God doesn’t want us to ignore His Word and ‘go-along-to-get-along’! Piers was hoping to shake up ratings, boo!

I am thankful that we have well spoken men and women, like Cameron, who will stand up for our Christian Faith. Well said. It is also disheartening that personal requests, as in Cameron’s request to not be questioned on gay rights and abortion, are ignored and. Sensationalism at it’s best and a complete lack of propriety on the part of the interviewer. Thanks Cameron for standing firm for what the Word of God stands for. Blessings to you and your family!

We feel the same way. He was so gentle yet clear on what he does and does not believe in. We love him too!
