Movieguide® has been working with Hollywood Studios to encourage them to produce the best redemptive and family movies for twenty-five years. Further, for the past eleven years they have been offering $50,000 in a screenwriting contest for Kairos Prizes for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays from first-time and beginning screenwriters. These prizes are awarded once a year at the Movieguide® Awards Gala Awards Ceremony in Hollywood.

Having participated in this gala event and interviewed leading producers, writers, actors and more of the best in redemptive movies and television on the Red Carpet before the awards gala, this writer attests to the first-class nature of every aspect of the Red Carpet event and subsequent awards gala ceremony that representatives of all the major Hollywood and independent studios attend.

Dr. Ted Baehr, founder of Movieguide®: The Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment, has announced that the $50,000 Kairos Prizes for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays by First-Time and Beginning Screenwriters is now accepting submissions for its 11th yearly competition.

The annual Movieguide awards offer honors to accomplishments in Christian/Faith filmmaking.

These prizes are provided by a generous grant from the John Templeton Foundation. The Kairos Prizes award $50,000 to the top three entries: $25,000, $15,000, and $10,000. Announcements for this year’s winners is scheduled for the beautiful and classy 24th Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry on Feb. 5, 2016 at the Universal Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Submissions deadlines are as follows: early-bird discount of $50 for script entries by Aug. 15, 2015; regular deadline for entries is Oct. 7, 2015, with a fee of $60; and a late entry fee of $80 will be charged after that, until the final deadline of Nov. 2, 2015.

The Kairos Prizes have celebrated since 2006 the best new screenplays by beginning screenwriters around the world that “greatly increase man’s love or understanding of God.” Other criteria for the prizes may be found online. Dr. Baehr says, “Hollywood is showing more and more interest in faith-based, redemptive stories because of the Kairos Prizes…We are honored by the amazing support the Hollywood community has shown toward the competition.”

Movieguide® reports that winners of the Kairos Prizes have gone to find further production and/or distribution support. For example, “Johnny,” written by David M. Anthony (originally titled “John, The Revelator,” won the first Kairos Grand Prize winner and then was released in 2011 on video through Pure Flix Entertainment. Another winner, “A Matter of Time,” was released last year, “There are several other prize-winning screenplays that are currently being filmed or are in the pipeline,” Dr. Baehr has added.

Stay tuned for more on other competitions, prizes, and awards.
