National Lighthouse Day Shows Light of the World

August 7th is National Lighthouse Day. Lighthouses are majestic beacons that decorate our nation’s shores. People stop to revere them and take photos. The very first lighthouse in the United States was built in outer Boston Harbor, Massachusetts on Little Brewster Island. Michigan has more lighthouses than any other single state with over 150 past and present lighthouses.

A lighthouse is a large structure, tall in stature.  It’s an important and useful structure and boats depend upon it. A lighthouse houses a beacon – a bright and powerful light – to warn those “at sea” of potential dangers. It’s a protector of sorts. The lighthouse serves as a warning system.

It makes sense, doesn’t it, that we often refer to Jesus Christ as a Lighthouse? Protector. Beacon of light. Warns of danger. Wants us to be safe.
