Film Debuts at #1 On Christian Videos Sales and #2 On Overall Disc Sales Charts
Pure Flix’s film God’s Not Dead, which is currently the top independent movie of the year thanks to a “stunning” and strong twenty-week theatrical release, debuts at No. 1 on the Nielsen Christian Videos sales chart and No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, which tracks overall Blu-ray and DVD combined sales for the week ending August 10, 2014.
“God’s Not Dead is a film that will live for years in the retail, digital and on-demand market,” said Michael Scott, managing partner of Pure Flix, who produced and distributed the film. “We expect the DVD sales to continue to be strong extending into Christmas as this is a prime gift item for the holiday season.”
The film was universally praised for grossing more than $60 million at the box office and has been termed the most profitable film of the year, of any genre.
The film features a star-studded cast, reality stars and musicians including Kevin Sorbo (Soul Surfer), Shane Harper (High School Musical), David A.R. White (Revelation Road) and Dean Cain (Lois & Clark), with special appearances by Newsboys, and Willie and Korie Robertson of the smash TV series “Duck Dynasty.” The film is rated PG.
In God’s Not Dead, college freshman and devout Christian Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper) finds his faith challenged by a dogmatic and argumentative philosophy professor (Kevin Sorbo) who requires his students to disavow the existence of God on the first day of class or face a failing grade. Josh finds himself having to choose between his faith and his future. Can he fight for what he believes? Can he prove the existence of God?
The fall DVD release of God’s Not Dead is the first in a string for Pure Flix which will also release Redeemed, Revelation Road: The Black Rider, and Mission Air.
