Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God!
He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:55
The whole point of the Gospel–the Good News–the whole point of Christianity actually, can be summed up in one thought: The death of death.
The opening chapters of Genesis recount the tragic fall of the first couple. Deceived by the serpent, they disobeyed God and brought death and condemnation to the entire human race.
We’re connected to Adam, so we must die. But God brought another Man into the picture, the God-Man, Jesus Christ, the Savior. This is the message of the Gospel. It is His work on the cross that outsmarted the serpent, defeated death, and reversed the curse. Now human beings have the option–death or life! Those who are joined by faith to this new Man, Christ Jesus, will experience everlasting life. Now there can be a happy ending to the story:
“Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Rev. 21:2-3)
With our greatest problem now taken out of the way, we are free to live our lives with peace and joy and hope, and enjoy God and His love for us forever.
