Now playing nationwide is the highly-anticipated combat story The Hornet’s Nest: an immersive feature film directed by David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud that puts audiences on the front line of battle, in a pulse-pounding experience never before captured on film.

According to a news release, the film stars real-life father and son journalists Mike and Carlos Boettcher, Emmy award-winning correspondents embedded with U.S. troops in Afghanistan that faced some of the most difficult battle conditions of the war while reporting on the action. Through their eyes, audiences are given unprecedented access to the front lines of battle, and the heroes who fight for our freedom.

In the vein of Lone Survivor and Act of ValorThe Hornet’s Nest tells the story of two real life journalists who were the only father and son team ever to embed with U.S. Armed Forces fighting on the front lines in Afghanistan. With cameras rolling, the Boettchers are side by side with American forces in some of the conflict’s toughest battles, as they spend almost two years covering the American troop surge, considered the most violent era of the Afghanistan war.

Allowing the viewers unprecedented access to the Soldiers and Marines, what ultimately unfolds is a true story of survival not only for the troops but for a father and son who seek to rekindle their relationship under the most harrowing of circumstances.

Mike and Carlos Boettcher are the only father and son to ever win an Emmy for the same news story, having recently won the prestigious “News Story of the Year” from ABC News for their coverage of Strong Eagle 3, which highlighted one of the most intense battles of the troop surge and is featured as the final act of the film.

“Freestyle Releasing was immediately moved by the incredible story of Mike and Carlos Boettcher, as well as all the brave servicemen and women on the front lines shown in the film,” said Mark Borde, Co-President Freestyle Releasing. “This very commercial story of bravery and heroism will definitely appeal to mass audiences.”

The Hornet’s Nest is one hundred percent real Soldiers and Marines, risking their lives for each other, seen through a father and son’s perspective. The film has a huge heart and is action packed,” said Salzberg and Tureaud, producers, in a joint statement. “This film gives you a never before seen view of the sacrifices, patriotism and dedication our troops face every day in battle. We are honored to part of the team that created ‘The Hornet’s Nest.'”

“After you see The Hornet’s Nest, the next time you encounter a Marine or Soldier, you won’t just thank them, you’ll hug them. That is why my son and I spent almost two years in Afghanistan at their side,” said Mike Boettcher.

The all-star soundtrack, featuring five time Grammy winner Wynonna Judd and husband Michael ‘Cactus’ Moser’s Follow Me, will be available from Gratitude Entertainment in May, 2014.

Terry Burgess, father of Staff Sergeant Bryan Burgess, one of the six soldiers in The Hornet’s Nest, told us, “On March 29th, 2011, I became a ‘Gold Star’ dad, a parent that lost a family member in s ervice to their country. Looking at my son’s flag-draped coffin I asked myself how I could possibly live up to his sacrifice, to honor my son that had died for me and my freedom. In my grief over Bryan’s death, I nearly killed myself with pills and alcohol. The answer came in the form of the film The Hornet’s Nest.

“I had never read the official Army reports of Bryan’s death, and now here was the entire day captured on film, right in front of me. I heard the bullets, the radio calls, and the determination and dedication in the voices of the men that were trying to save him. Now I had a reason to live, a reason to get out of bed again. This is how I would honor Bryan; by telling his story and sharing The Hornet’s Nest.”

He added, “These military service members put their lives on hold and on the line and for our protection and freedom. I’ve seen that watching the film helps audiences to understand what our military personnel willingly endure and sacrifice, and has helped soldiers to be able to talk with their loved ones about their own experiences. Seeing this film creates a connection between those that serve and civilians, and strengthens people’s faith in their country and their fellow human beings.”
