September 2nd – American Minute – Japan’s Emperor Officially Surrendered

On SEPTEMBER 2, 1945, Emperor Hirohito's Imperial forces officially surrendered aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay. Mitsuo Fuchida:"I would give anything to retract my actions of twenty-nine years ago at Pearl Harbor, but it is impossible. Instead, I now work at striking the death-blow to the basic hatred which infests the human heart and causes such tragedies. And that hatred cannot be uprooted without assistance from Jesus Christ."

German Homeschool Family Raided By Police, Children Seized

Special agents stormed a homeschooling family's residence in Germany, forcibly removing all four of the family's children (ages 7-14). The sole grounds for removal were the parents continued to homeschool in defiance of a German ban on home education.

August 31st – American Minute – John Bunyan

Imprisoned twelve years for preaching without permission from the government, he wrote "Pilgrim's Progress," an allegory of a man named Christian fleeing from the City of Destruction and directed by Evangelist to follow the narrow path to the City of Zion. This classic, "Pilgrim's Progress," was written by John Bunyan, who died AUGUST 31, 1688.
