Life in Florida had it’s perks. My favorite season was when Jack was very little and we had a membership to the Marriott Harbor Beach Club on Fort Lauderdale Beach. The Marriott staff provided a three ring circus of beachside activities for the kids, while the parents mostly relaxed in chaise lounge chairs by the pool. The pool deck was always hopping with hoola hoops and face painting, freeze dancing and sand castle contests.
I used to bounce Jack up and down on my hip in the shallow end of the pool singing and splashing and hugging him to no end. But hands down, my favorite activity was the hammock down on the beach. For a few years there, at the end of every beach day, we would lay side by side in the hammock and I would read to him-Curious George, Dr. Seuss and Lyle the Crocodille.
Now that he’s thirteen, our mother son time is very different. But one thing has never changed. I’m always looking for ways to make it count. What are some of the things that you do with your kids to make the time special? How do you make the time count?
