In the 21st century, Christians have begun to question whether swearing is a sin. The Bible clearly states that vulgarity is wrong, for many reasons. One of them being that our words were always meant to glorify God. How can we sing praises to God, and then spit out curses at our neighbors?
Desiring God is a ministry and movement that began in 1994. Renowned pastor and theologian John Piper, at the time 48 years old, passed on the torch of his church’s tape ministry to his assistant Jon Bloom. Piper and Bloom then founded the ministry and named it Desiring God after Piper’s popular book Desiring God: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist.
What started with tapes of sermons, a few of Piper’s first books, and a single annual event, in God’s timing, blossomed into a web ministry with more than 10,000 resources distributed worldwide.
