California artist Thomas Kinkade, one of the most popular painters in history, died of natural causes on Friday, at the age of 54 in his home in Los Gatos, California.
SCH Regular Contributor Nise Davies gives us an up close and personal report with Kinkade in a rare video interview filmed in December 2011. The video originally aired on her television show Hey Nise!
Lovingly known as the “Painter of Lights” Kinkade put a happy emphasis on home, hearth and church. Over the years his images were mass produced and distributed all over the world. Kinkade work was said to be in over ten million homes in America. There is no greater testament to Thomas Kinkade’s mission that art be accessible for everyone to enjoy than the millions of Kinkade images that grace the walls of homes across America and around the world. Through a myriad of genres, Thom’s ability to present his subject in an idyllic setting inspires the viewer to imagine the world full of beauty, intrigue, and adventure.
Thomas Kinkade received many awards for his works, including multiple National Association of Limited Edition Dealers (NALED) awards for Artist of the Year and Graphic Artist of the Year, and his art has been named Lithograph of the Year nine times. In 2004, Kinkade received a special award from NALED recognizing him as the Most Award Winning Artist in the Past 25 Years.
