Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
~Psalm 1
Key Verse: “He (person who delights in God’s Word) is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.” Psalm 1:3
Psalm one lists the benefits for anyone who delights and obeys God’s Word: 1) You will be blessed 2) Your mind will be full of good thoughts as you meditate on Scripture 3) You will bear much fruit 4) You will live differently than wicked people and mockers 5) The Lord will watch over your path 6) You will prosper 7) Your soul will be healthy.
When I wake up in the morning, my stomach usually tells me it is ready for food (yes I do like breakfast). My mind tells me I have responsibilities with my work and a long list of tasks to accomplish. My ears tell me my kids are awake and need help starting their day. My voice is ready to start talking with my wife as the day begins. It would be so easy to neglect my soul. The most important minutes of the day are usually connecting with God through prayer and His Word. What is urgent tries to take the place of what is truly important in your life. Guard your time with the Lord.
How can you receive more benefits of God’s Word during the week: 1) Read the Bible at a set time each day? 2) Listen to more teaching and preaching during the week? 3) Start a Bible reading schedule with goals? 4) Memorize Scripture verses? 5) Find a friend with whom you can share what you are learning and offer accountability? 6) Join a Bible Study? 7) Attend church weekly? Choose some of these options and enjoy your time with God in His Word!
