Watch Francis Chan’s illustration on living for eternity above!

Pastor Francis Chan has been using the illustration for almost 30 years (ever since he was a youth pastor), and it never gets old! He challenges his congregation to imagine a rope that has only one end – it goes on forever. The length is infinite. Then he shows a few inches at the beginning of the rope, indicated with red paint.

The rope represents our existence, and the red portion of the infinitely long rope is our live on earth. What we do with our life on earth decides how we will spend the rest of our eternity. So many people on earth, even Christians, live for the red portion. We try with all our might to attain fulfillment, happiness, and comfort on earth. Pastor Chan challenges us to live for eternity.

Which part are you living for?

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21
