Watch the Andy Stanley short message on treasures in the video above!

In the video, the well-known pastor asks the question “where is your treasure?” He cites the verse in Matthew where Jesus says:

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

Matthew 6:24

So, what is the best way to gauge how close someone is in their walk with God? Is it the number of highlighted verses in their Bible, or is it how they’ve spent their money in the past few months?

In fact, the Bible even goes so far as to say that money is the “root of all evil”. Does this mean that we can’t glorify God in the way we spend our money? By no means! However, it is our natural tendency to spend our money in ways that put ourselves first. Finances become a tool of selfishness. In the same way, many spend their lives trying to amass money. What they’re really doing is pursuing money when they should be pursuing God.

Are you pursuing money, or are you pursuing God?
