Watch the trailer for Oscar nominee ‘Darkest Hour’ below!
The film was nominated for a total of six Academy Awards categories, including Gary Oldman for Best Actor, Bruno Delbonnel for Best Cinematography, Jaqueline Durran for Best Costume Design, among others. Darkest Hours was also nominated for Best Picture.
The movie is based on the early days of the second World War when the fate of the UK and entire Western Europe depended on Winston Churchill. At this time, Churchill was the newly-appointed Prime Minister of Britain. It was his choice whether to give in and negotiate with Adolf Hitler or to take a stand against the Nazi Regime. Winston Churchill’s famed stubbornness was exactly what the world needed. God used him in mighty ways!
Sadly, most of the Academy Award nominees for Best Picture are not family-friendly. Whether it be excessive vulgarity or explicit sexual content, film creators seem to intentionally add inappropriate scenes in the name of realism and art. When a film comes along that is both exceptional in quality and appropriate for the whole family to watch, we love to highlight it!
Unlike most other nominees, Darkest Hours is moderately family-friendly. There are a number of swear words that parents should be aware of, however. We at Sonoma Christian Home would recommend websites such as Plugged In to get a more detailed picture of what movies contain before you watch them.
