The synopsis for the film is as follows:
The film is the shocking true story of the investigation and trial of Dr Kermit Gosnell – his 30 year killing spree and the political and media establishment that tried to cover it up. Who can the investigators really trust when a routine drugs investigation uncovers a scandal that goes all the way to the top?
After Kickstarter reportedly resisted the Gosnell movie fundraiser, the movie’s Indiegogo campaign was one of the most successful film crowdfunding campaigns in history. The creators raised $2.3 million in just 45 days through the help of just over 29,000 generous supporters.
In the trailer, a scene is shown that depicts a number of isles in the courtroom with “reserved for the media” signs on them. Many of them are empty, signifying how the enormous case was mostly ignored by mainstream media due to the controversial subject-matter. The scene is based on a photograph taken in 2013 at the Gosnell case.
It will be interesting to see if the media covers the movie, which is so obviously supported by viewers around the world, evidenced by the successful crowdfunding campaign. Already the Gosnell movie has had trouble finding a distributer, finally landing a deal with indie distributor GVN Releasing (which has ties to Sony).
