On January 15, Parade reports on growing streaming tools and services for watching performances on films and TV on paid streaming services. However, it should be noted that the best of live and filmed streaming of performance events is often free from America’s finest performance facilities and by the best of artists.

For example, on January 15, The Kennedy Center presents DakhaBrakha in a free live, streamed, and filmed performance. The Ukrainian world music quartet DakhaBrakha performs with its transnational sound and theatrical flair, while accompanied by Indian, Arabic, African, Russian, and Australian traditional instruments. January 16, The Apollo Orchestra performs in the Terrace Theater. They are scheduled to perform with Croatian virtuoso classical guitarist Ana Vidovic in a program that includes; Asturias for solo guitar by Isaac Albéniz; Symphony No. 1 in one movement by Samuel Barber; Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo, his best known work; and Alborada del gracioso, a movement from Maurice Ravel’s suite Miroirs.

Further at the Kennedy Center on January 17, The Brazilian experimental band Cabruêra debuts on the Millennium Stage in free live, streamed, and filmed performance traditional music from northern Brazil. The group mixes Afro-Brazilian rhythms, electric funk, folk rock, and Middle Eastern sounds. On January 18, the Kennedy Center provides another free live, streamed, and filmed performance, Let Freedom Ring! a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr., with Yolanda Adams and Let Freedom Ring! choir.

Many other great American performance facilities provide live and filmed streaming of great performances especially from New York City performance halls and from many facilities in the nation’s capital and more. On January 15, Opera America provides free, live streaming of “Masters at Work.” Free videos of some of the greatest sacred oratorios and other choral works from around the world can be viewed on YouTube. A simple search of great works and great artists often yields the best of performances in beautiful cathedrals, churches, and performance halls via free live and/or filmed streaming.
