The synopsis for the film is as follows:
In Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns,” an all new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.
Fans of The Chronicles of Narnia films will be pleased to discover that David Magee, who wrote the screenplay for Mary Poppins Returns, also wrote the script for the latest Narnia movie. The Silver Chair already has a director attached and studio backing, but the lack of news in the past few months have caused many to question if the film has descended into “development hell.”
Mary Poppins Returns is directed by Rob Marshall. The soundtrack is composed by Marc Shaiman (George of the Jungle) and features original songs written by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. The film stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke playing one of the same roles he played in the original film, Mr. Dawes Jr.
