For those who view abstinence as an impossibility for singles with a checkered past, Dianna Hobbs, author of The New A-list: Abstinence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder, refutes this perspective. In her new book, the award-winning urban faith-based media specialist, who abstained from sex until marriage, reveals the painful experience of being molested by a neighbor at age 6.

“I cried while writing the first chapter of The New A-list that describes in vivid detail how someone I trusted violated me at such a tender age,” says Hobbs, who told no one she was a victim of the horrible crime until age 18.

“Although being introduced to perversion awakened sexual feelings in me far too early in my life, I was able to hold out until my wedding day–something I want to empower others to do as well.”

With research from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing that approximately 1 in 6 boys and 1 in 4 girls are sexually abused before the age of 18, Hobbs’ ordeal is not uncommon.

According to the Founder of Empowering Everyday Women Ministries, also named one of the “70 Most Influential Black Christian History-Makers” by Black Christian News Network, her message on purity is not only aimed at virgins, but everyone–even victims of prolonged sexual abuse, incest, and molestation–wanting to know the principles that successfully guided her along her abstinence journey.

“I don’t want anyone to feel that they are too tainted by their past or somehow disqualified from remaining sexually pure,” she says. “If I can do it, anyone can, and I want to be the one to show them how.”

As head of one of the nation’s leading ministries to women of faith and color, Hobbs receives letters from women and men across the nation who have experienced sexual abuse, molestation, incest, and sometimes, regrettable instances of consensual sex, wanting to take control of their sex lives.

The New A-list, written from a Christian viewpoint, offers a combination of personal anecdotes, biblical wisdom, modern statistics, and practical advice, creating a comprehensive guide for abstinent singles, whatever their history.
