In the Lord I take refuge.
How then can you say to me:
“Flee like a bird to your mountain.
2 For look, the wicked bend their bows;
they set their arrows against the strings
to shoot from the shadows
at the upright in heart.
3 When the foundations are being destroyed,
what can the righteous do?”

4 The Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord is on his heavenly throne.
He observes everyone on earth;
his eyes examine them.
5 The Lord examines the righteous,
but the wicked, those who love violence,
he hates with a passion.
6 On the wicked he will rain
fiery coals and burning sulfur;
a scorching wind will be their lot.

7 For the Lord is righteous,
he loves justice;
the upright will see his face.

– Psalm 11

Key Verse: “In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “Flee like a bird to your mountain.” Psalm 11:1

David explains that he will find security in the Lord instead of running to the mountains in fear. Where do you run to when you are scared or hurting? As a child, I did not know Jesus and there was a minimal amount of relief for my trauma. Analyzing, exercising, partying, denying, and achieving fell short of what I truly needed.

When I was in my early twenties, I became very sick with an illness. I found an empty church and dropped to my knees in prayer. Recovering from the sickness would take many years. God gave me reassurance that He was still with me, and He would be my strength. It was new for me to experience God in my pain in disappointment. I have three children now, and when they have struggles I long to hold them. God is not burdened when we turn to Him in our pain; He wants us to experience Him as our refuge.

Inspiring?  You might also enjoy his interpretation of Psalm 1.
