Hope and purpose, even in severe trials, are themes of redemption.

90 Minutes in Heaven, the film based on Don Piper’s New York Times bestselling memoir which hit theaters earlier this year, is now on DVD!

Piper was returning in his Ford Escort from a church conference, when he was struck head-on by an 18-wheeler. Initially, first responders declared him dead. However, Piper has told how the power of intercessory prayer returned him to “this side of heaven.” Hayden Christensen plays Piper with vulnerability, honesty, authenticity because Piper’s had a difficult road to recovery. Piper was left from the wreck with severe injuries that required lengthy hospitalization and “agonizing treatments…pain that gripped his body was paralleled by the despair that gripped his spirit.”

90 Minutes in Heaven, a faith-based dramatic movie, sports wonderfully dynamic writing and quality directing. Although it powerfully focuses on prayer, faith, and miracles, due to due to a car crash and some medical injuries,  we caution that this film is most suitable for older children/adults.

90 Minutes in Heaven is rated PG-13 and has been distributed Samuel Goldwyn Films. Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker, Star Wars II and III plays the lead role of Don Piper and that Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane, Superman Returns) performs the role of Eva Piper.

The movie is based on Don Piper’s book “90 Minutes in Heaven,” which was published in September of 2004. In the over ten years since, millions of people worldwide have read the amazing true story of Don Piper’s experience with death and life. In reading this book, they have found their lives changed. Along with Don’s story of his accident, death, return to life, and then painful recovery, Don offers personal reflections. He presents how the book has impacted him, his family, and the millions who have heard his story. True stories from readers about the effect “90 Minutes in Heaven” has had on their lives, favorite Scriptures and quotations on heaven from Don, and more are also included.

The release of this movie is about hope and purpose even in the severest of trials. It follows on the opening success of War Room and Captive, which all support these same themes during such a time as this.
