Many wonderful movies have been on the big screen in theaters in 2015 with outstanding artistry and worthwhile content. The first top pick family movie of 2015 is “Woodlawn.” Since its October, 2015 release, it is still in select theaters.  On January 2, 2016, On DVD reports that “Woodlawn” remains the top-selling sports DVD, although it is in pre-order, due for DVD release January 19, 2016.  “Woodlawn” is the amazing true story of the positive, constructive influence of Hank Erwin as a sports chaplain who leads a struggling football team in racially torn Birmingham, Alabama to reconciliation and redemption. This team then leads the rivaling team to reconciliation and redemption, thus positively affecting the whole community. The movie has excellent, notable actors, compelling cinematography, and engaging storytelling. Sean Astin wonderfully play Hank Erwin and Jon Voight delightfully performs Coach Bear Bryant. Mark Burnett and Roma Downey are producers. Critics have praised this movie for raising the bar as a game-changer in artistry for faith-based, redemptive, Christian movies. 

On January 2, 2016, Box Office Mojo reports that top pick family movie of 2015, “The Peanuts Movie” is still in theaters around the world in 2016, since its October 2015 release. “The Peanuts Movie” is a rare G-rated movie in theaters with inter-generational appeal for all ages. It celebrates the 65 years of classic Peanuts comic strips and animated films. It has been updated for the big screen without compromising the classic stories, characters, and themes. Charlie Brown, as the struggling underdog, teaches everyone valuable lessons of good character, which include virtues such as: compassion, perseverance, determination, honesty and much more. It is produced by the Disney Corp.

The third top pick family movie of 2015 is “Cinderella” a new Disney, live-action presentation of the classic. Lily James of Downton Abbey fame is lovely as Cinderella, who seeks to display courage and kindness. The cinematography, sets, and costuming are stunning in this movie. On January 2, On DVD that it is available on DVD from Amazon for purchase or Netflix for rental. January 2, On DVD also reports that this movie continues as one of the top-selling DVDs.

The fourth top pick family movie for 2015 is “Little Boy.” This pristine movie produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downy has renowned actors. It is a memory movie that traces the developmental of a little boy’s understanding of faith to return his military father after his service in WWII.  It is available on DVD from Christian Cinema and more. The fifth top pick family movie is “The Good Dinosaur. “This heart-warming movie has wonderful special effects. It is still in theaters and according to On DVD Releases. com continues as a top-selling DVD in pre-order with a release date to DVD on February 23, 2016.   

The sixth top pick family movie is “The Letters” about the true story of Mother Teresa’s work with children and those in severest need in India. It is still in theaters with its DVD release date soon to be announced. The seventh top pick family movie of 2015 now available on DVD from Christian Cinema and more is “The Drop Box.” It is also a true story about a South Korean pastor, his family, and colleagues, who care for unwanted, disabled babies left in a drop box. The eighth top pick family movie now also on DVD from Christian Cinema and more is “Noble.” It is the true story of Christina Noble who escaped slums in Ireland to rescue a million street children in Viet Nam, after war there. This movie also available now on DVD from Christian Cinema and more.

The ninth top pick family movie of 2015 which is another movie that inspires compassion and hope is “Max.”  A dog who has helped soldiers in Afghanistan returns to the U.S. and is adopted by his handler’s family after suffering a traumatic experience. On DVD reports that it continues as a top-selling DVD. The tenth top pick family movie of 2015 now available on DVD is “Pan.” This movie features Hugh Jackman. It is about a London orphan, 12-year-old Peter, who is whisked away to the fantastical world of Neverland. Along with new friend James Hook and Tiger Lily, they band together to save Neverland from the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman). 


These top ten family movies of 2015 on DVD would make wonderful acquisitions for home, educational, public libraries and more.

Many delightful family movies are also due for release in theaters in this New Year:  “Kung Fu Panda 3,” January 29;  “Young Messiah,” March 11; “The Jungle Book,” “Finding Dory,” June 17; “BFG,” July 1; “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2,” June 3; “Star Trek Beyond,” July 22 ; “Pete’s Dragon,” and more.

Many other promising family movies are in development for theaters: “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair,” “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,” “Butterfly Circus,” “The Adventures of Tintin 2,” and more.

Furthermore, Disney live-action remakes of classic animated movies are in development: “Aladdin,” “The Jungle Book,” “Mulan,” “Dumbo,” Winnie the Pooh,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Pinocchio,” “Fantasia,” “Tinker Bell,” and “Chip ‘n’ Dale.”

It is always wise to check out good reviews of movies as to what is most appropriate, even for reboots of classic titles. It is also always important to select a theater which is the most safe and secure. Happy New Year at the movies!
