Mercy Chefs serve holiday meals to the homeless. Mercy Chefs, a Virginia based non-profit, disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization is scheduled to begin their third annual “17 Days of Christmas” in Dallas, Texas this Sunday, December 11th.

For the seventeen days following the kick-off event, Mercy Chefs will station their state-of-the-art mobile kitchen at various locations across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to serve Christmas dinner for the neighboring community. In total, the organization plans to serve 16,000 chef prepared, holiday meals for the homeless and families in need this holiday season. In keeping with Mercy Chefs’ community centric model, the organization will host each event in partnership with existing local outreaches.

At a number of the events, homeless attendees will also be given desperately needed essentials including: socks, sleeping bags and toiletries, and families in need will be given groceries and the opportunity to select Christmas gifts for their children. These supplies and gifts will extend relief and hope to those, who may not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas.

Throughout the year, Mercy Chefs is committed to serving Dallas’ homeless population by providing weekly meals in partnership with local churches. The organization also routinely provides disaster relief services across the state and nation. In 2016 alone, they responded three times to disasters in Texas – following the tornado in Garland and twice to Houston for the back-to-back flooding that spanned across the late spring and early summer.

Mercy Chefs is a 501c3 founded in 2006 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The organization exists to provide professionally prepared, restaurant quality meals to victims, volunteers and first responders in natural disasters and national emergencies and partners with existing ministries with food service in underserved communities around the country. Since its founding, Mercy Chefs has served over one million meals, and in 2015 they received both the Virginia Governor’s Volunteerism Award and the Hampton Roads Volunteer Achievement Award for their service.
