Watch the trailer for the ‘Mary Magdalene’ biblical movie trailer above!

Universal Pictures, the studio behind the production, published the trailer recently with the synopsis as follows:

Mary Magdalene is an authentic and humanistic portrait of one of the most enigmatic and misunderstood spiritual figures in history. The biblical biopic tells the story of Mary (Rooney Mara), a young woman in search of a new way of living. Constricted by the hierarchies of the day, Mary defies her traditional family to join a new social movement led by the charismatic Jesus of Nazareth (Joaquin Phoenix). She soon finds a place for herself within the movement and at the heart of a journey that will lead to Jerusalem. Written by Helen Edmundson and Philippa Goslett, Mary Magdalene also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tahar Rahim. The film will be released by Universal Pictures on 16th March 2018.

Mary Magdalene is not the only Bible movie coming to theaters 2018. Both Affirm Films (a division of Sony Pictures) and Pure Flix Entertainment have biblical epics hitting the big screen in the next year. Samson, from Pure Flix, is a relatively low-budget film about the classic story of love, betrayal, and ultimately God’s power working through an ordinary man. From Affirm Films comes Paul: Apostle of Christ, about the momentous conversion of Paul and his ministry afterwards. The cast includes Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in the treasured Passion of the Christ.

In fact, 2018 is set to be a big year for faith-based films as a whole. Pure Flix plans to release their third (and probably final) installment of God’s Not Dead. The sequel to Unbroken is also expected to hit theaters next year, along with the Erwin Brothers’ (October Baby, Woodlawn) I Can Only Imagine, about the story behind the famous song that touched millions.

What do you think? Are you excited about the films we mentioned? Please let us know in the comments below!
