Just in time for Palm Sunday and Easter, one of the best movies based on real events and the Truth that sets us free comes to theaters in time for Palm Sunday and Easter.  The captivating, dramatic narrative of the new movie The Case for Christ is based on the true story of the award-winning journalist and avowed atheist Lee Strobel, and takes place in 1980 when his investigative reporting earned him a promotion to legal editor at the Chicago Tribune. At the same time his career was taking off, his home life became a battle zone when his wife Leslie – who had been an agnostic – found faith in Christ.

Applying his well-honed journalistic and legal skills, Lee set out on a mission to disprove the newfound Christian faith of his wife. The result was unexpected and life-altering.

The movie The Case for Christ opens for wide release in theatres April 7th and is a must-see film for everyone who has ever pondered the existence of God, or the evidence related to the life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Lee, who earned a law degree from Yale Law School, used his legal experience and training as a former courtroom analyst to thoroughly study and build a case to discredit the deity of Jesus. Employing historical, personal, and medical records of evidence of the life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus, Lee “cross-examined” a dozen leading experts with doctorates from schools such as Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis, who are recognized authorities in their fields. His careful research and scrutiny led him to stunning conclusions and results.

There will be a live special one-night Q & A event on April 6. The backstory of the skeptic and the facts he researched fills movie theaters as The Case for Christ becomes an exclusive cinema event with the movie and a following Q & A with Lee and Leslie Strobel, as well with as principals involved in the production of this project.

Tickets for this one-night event are available online at Fathom Events. For a complete list of theater locations, visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change). In addition to seeing the film and participating in the live Q&A, ticket purchasers will also receive a free download of the first two chapters of The Case for Christ book. This movie is the top pick for older children through adults for the Easter Season this year for excellent seasonal content and artistry.

Another good movie for inspiring seasonal content with Easter themes of the cross, sacrifice, and miracles, Facing the Darkness, comes to theaters soon for one night on April10. See Sonoma Christian Home’s exclusive interview for this movie.

In the spring of 2014, West Africa was under siege from the sweeping Ebola pandemic as 26,000 people became infected, 11,000 people died, and many were left orphans and widows.

A brave and selfless team rose to the occasion in the name of Jesus. They risked everything to provide resources and care to the suffering people of Africa. The crisis also hit home for Samaritan’s Purse and its leader, Franklin Graham, when some members of this organization were struck down by the virus.  Dr. Kent Brantly and worker Nancy Writebol both contracted the deadly virus; however, as people prayed miracles began to unfold.

Facing Darkness highlights this crisis and the true story of Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol in the race against time to get them back to the United States in the hope of saving their lives.

The documentary shows that although the epidemic was terrible, it could have been much worse. The film highlights the work of Samaritan’s Purse, which has a hospital in Liberia’s capital city, Monrovia, and was in a unique position to help. When Samaritan’s Purse workers came down with Ebola themselves, other workers with Samaritan’s Purse bravely stepped in to serve even to the risk of their own lives.  (Ebola is easily transmitted even with touching the sweat on an infected person.)  This unrated movie is appropriate for middle school children through adults. The website for Facing Darkness provides a wealth of information that includes: how to purchase tickets, news stories, and endorsements by Christian leaders such as the following:

“This movie is a powerful story of the human spirit at its best. A story of an epidemic that could have been even more catastrophic than it was, had it not been for those who courageously and selflessly determined to do all they could in spite of extreme danger. A must see!”
Steve Green, President of Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc.

Facing Darkness is a cinematic masterpiece that will most certainly inspire a generation to live with abandon. This film’s message offers a challenge to modern-day believers—to run with Jesus Christ … no matter the cost.” Todd Starnes, Fox News Channel

Facing Darkness highlights several of the true heroes who literally put their lives on the line for the thousands of West Africans stricken with Ebola back in 2014. This is a film that clearly displays what it means to sacrificially live for a higher purpose and calling.” Bob Waliszewski, Director, Focus on the Family’s Plugged In

“‘Who is my brother?” We might discover the answer to this question while Facing Darkness… and finding light. This is a compelling saga of faith and miracles shining hope into the midst of despair. The Good Samaritan is personified in this compelling retelling of how God used the Samaritan’s Purse ministry of Franklin Graham to foster the miraculous healing victims of Ebola in Liberia.” Alveda King, Evangelist, Director, Civil Rights for the Unborn

Anne Kelly*, a missionary colleague of Nancy Writebol said after screening the movie, “The movie was a well-made documentary covering the facts as well as the amazing faith of the Samaritan’s Purse team authentically.  I appreciated the vulnerability of the team in sharing just how challenging the experience was, yet never losing their faith and, in fact, choosing to return to Liberia after a time of healing/refreshment in the U.S.

It was especially meaningful to see Dave and Nancy’s testimonies on what it was like for them.  The message that really resonated with me was from Dr. Kent Brantly who essentially said that faith does keep you safe.  In essence, the whole point of Samaritan’s Purse is to walk into the storm and face the darkness no matter what the personal cost.  That is SO inspiring to me as one who has a passion for missions.  I really appreciated more than words can express the depth of faith, commitment and selflessness on the part of these missionaries!!” Make sure to read Sonoma Christian Home’s insightful interview with the film’s Executive Producer Bill Coger.
