John Piper starts of by saying it’s amazing to think that God, the sovereign ruler of the universe, would ordain that prayers cause things to happen that would not happen if you didn’t pray! In fact, James 4:2 says “you do not have because you do not ask God”. The verse is quite clear.
It’s truly mind-boggling. God, the master of matter and time itself, has given us the privilege of prayer, and He takes those prayers and folds them into His great plan!
Prayer has many purposes, and they are all equally valid. Prayer is communicating with God, our Creator. Prayer is aligning our will with His. Prayer is praising God and acknowledging who He is. Prayer is also humbly making requests of Him and having faith He will answer.
The Bible says a lot about prayer. Here are some verses.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
