The morning stars sing his praise, as do the earth and all that is in it.
Sing to Him a new song;
play skillfully [on the string]
with aloud and joyful sound.
PSALM 33:3 AMP
Our God is vast. There is just no way around it. There is absolutely nothing small or insignificant about him. Isaiah 66:1 states that heaven is his throne and earth, his footstool. Job 36:26 (nlt) says, “Look, God is greater than we can understand. His years cannot be counted,” and Job 37:5 (nlt) says, “God’s voice is glorious in the thunder. We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power.”
One of my favorite verses (Hebrews 1:3, amp) tells us that Jesus—the sole expression of the glory of God—upholds, maintains, guides, and propels the universe by his mighty word of power! He laid the foundations of the earth and set the boundaries of the sea. The morning stars sing his praise, as do the earth and all that is in it. By his breath the waters are frozen, and on his word clouds move across the sky and release their rain.
Our God calls forth life from the womb, restores the years the locusts have eaten, and causes nations to scatter. He is our judge, our king, our father, our friend, and our beloved. His beauty is at the same time dazzling and soft. His love releases both weeping of repentance and joy. His faithfulness is crucial to our
existence, for even when we are faithless, he is faithful.
He could have no greater love for us, no deeper commitment, and no stronger tie. His relationship overshadows all others. When we are utterly forsaken, completely broken, totally filthy, and undone, he calls us to himself and covers us in his kindness. He feeds us, clothes us, comforts us, and sustains us. He guides, shields, protects, and establishes us.
Job 36:5 (amp) proclaims,
“Behold! God is mighty, and yet despises no one nor regards anything as trivial; He is mighty in power of understanding and heart.”
What kind of marvelous God do we serve? One who will take a lifetime plus eternity to know. One who deserves unending praise and adoration.
As a musician and song writer, sometimes the thought goes through my head that so very many songs have been written—surely there are no more to write. Then I spend a moment or an hour or a day with my God, and my heart swells with words and rhythms, revealing again to me how vast he truly is!
Sing to him a new song.
