The movie War Room resonates with viewers. A story about the power of prayer rescuing a beleaguered family has appealed to many theater goers. The first weekend out War Room was number two at the box office, but the second weekend it has been number one.

ABC reports that: “…Rentrak (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of September 6, 2015, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement service.

The top twelve domestic box office hits include the following redemptive and family movies:War Room (#1), Inside Out (#10 after many weeks in theaters), and Ant-Man (#11 after many weeks in theaters).

September 6, Deadline Hollywood states that War Room has taken the number one box office slot on both a 3-day and 4-day basis, with respective estimates of $9.24M and $12.1M. “Through ten days, the Kendrick Brothers film has made $27.5M.  Sony sees $9.35M for FSS and $12.3M for FSSM. ”

This success affirms the commitment to pray about and for this movie by the Kendrick Brothers, their colleagues, and their supporters.  For The Wrap, Covering Hollywood, Alex Kendrick has said that he believes that this film hits a need in our culture that is becoming more and more obvious. Further, he emphasizes that we need to return to prayer. He states that politicians, government programs and political correctness can’t fix the many issues that are destroying our culture, but that God can.

Kendrick asserts that as the military prepare their battle plans with their allies in a strategic place before going out onto the field that he and his colleagues believe we should each learn how to get alone with God and strategically pray through the issues we face in life before trying to deal with them. He contends that we can tell a huge difference when we fight our battles in prayer first.

The Kendrick Brothers, their colleagues, and supporters have certainly been seeing answers to their prayers for the movie, but more importantly they are praying that the movie is a catalyst to encourage prayer for our nation and world. They are most concerned with challenging people of faith to pray and ask God to intervene in our culture. They, like many of faith, believe we need to turn back to God as a nation.

Many Christian leaders, organizations, and churches agree with the Kendrick Brothers. Focus on the Family writes that the movie gives viewers an inspiring (aspirational) glimpse of what that spiritual transformation ca take place when we commit to making prayer a priority.” We hope that War Room will inspire every Christian who sees it to develop a deeper, more active, and more real prayer life.
