Today there is more freedom to express Christian values in movies than in most public spaces because of consumer support. On March 29, On DVD Release reports that War Room continues as a top-selling DVD in the African American category. Zootopia is the top-selling DVD even in pre-release in the animation category. The Good Dinosaur, The Peanuts Movie, and Inside Out are also top-selling DVDs in animation films. Risen is the top-selling DVD even in pre-release in the historical and mystery categories. Woodlawn is still a top-selling DVD in the sports category. All of these movies have Christian values in them. Consumer statistics have shown that good family and redemptive movies have demonstrated consumer support and staying power for many years.
Where expressions of Christian values are limited in many public arenas they are less limited in movies, television, and streaming media where there is consumer support. Today we are seeing a social trend in which a new morality has been developing that values tolerance and inclusion. Ironically, this new social trend is often not inclusive or tolerant when it comes to Christian values in many public spaces, except where there is consumer support. Therefore, we see more open expressions of Christian values in movies and other media in public spaces where there is production and consumer support.
According to Daily Box Office Mojo, good redemptive family movies remain strong at the box office including: Zootopia, Miracles From Heaven, Risen, and Young Messiah. This week God’s Not Dead 2, another wonderful redemptive family movie comes out in theaters. It is important for consumers interested in good redemptive family movies to support these films in theaters, especially on the first weekend. Consumer support can be demonstrated in many ways: sales, reviews, ratings, as well as visits to IMDb (internet movie database for films and TV).
Fortunately, there is an openness and significant value placed on consumer feedback for ads, products, and services. Today streaming services such as Netflix and others provide feedback tools to review and rate their products. This feedback is considered as streaming services determine what products to maintain and which to eliminate. The same is true of television where viewership numbers influence what is continued or stopped.
Today active social responsibility is more needed than ever in our world filled with darkness and conflict. Light overcomes darkness; but it needs to be shined into the darkness to overcome it.
