PBS provides excellent programs and series for intergenerational, family, and individual viewing. As it does daily, on April 25, national PBS (national public broadcasting service) provides news and program updates on its national site. PBS affiliates also provide updates on national and local affiliate PBS news and programs. For example, on April 25, KNCT, PBS affiliate in Central Texas, announces as do many other local PBS affiliates along with the PBS national program, the airing of The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, which is a six-episode series produced by Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan (who is also the writer). This spectacular and stunning series has been filmed over the course of more than six years at some of nature’s most spectacular locales: “Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska…”
PBS states that The National Parks: America’s Best Idea is also a story of “people from every conceivable background—rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs; people who were willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy.” PBS provides captivating online filmed previews of episodes from this series.
On April 25, KNCT also announces that on April 26 it will air the program, National Parks Texas. This PBS program on Texas national parks will cover a diverse array of sites that include rugged peaks, beautiful waterways, and historic sites. The Texas PBS online site provides a preview of this Texas episode, as well as an invitation to free screening of the film with National Parks rangers, historians and experts on April 25.
PBS provides the best in non-commercial and educational TV that is entertaining, enriching, and enlightening. Some of the other prolific, profound, and prominent PBS programs and series include: American Experience, Frontline, Nature, Jackie Robinson, Masterpiece, American Masters, Great Performances, Ken Burns, Live From Lincoln Center, Life on the Reef, First Freedom (Fight for Religious Liberty), Shakespeare Uncovered, PBS Kids, and much more.
