The Perfect Gift for Father’s Day

Healer. Provider. Sanctifier. Door. Way. Truth. Life. Light. Good Shepherd. Comforter. Advocate. These are all names that God has revealed about Himself in the Bible. Yet, the most comprehensive name for God is: Father. Of all the names, descriptions, and symbolism God could’ve chosen, He decided that the title and the role of Father would embrace them all. This is both a beautiful and challenging thought for every believer, let alone fathers.

Every father already deals with the increasing pressure of family demands, work load, and society’s interpretations. Add to that the fact that God is the perfect father, and well, it’s enough to level a crushing blow to every one of us. This is not God’s heart or intention. He is not measuring us up to His perfection, He is perfecting us into His image. He is not trying to prove how great He is; He is modeling to each father how great we can become!

As a father, armed with this perspective, we should immediately rid ourselves of the notion that fathers can do it all. We are not able to be God and thank God we cannot be Him! We can, however, do all things with this caveat: through Christ who strengthens us.

Our heavenly father is not expecting us to be all things without the help of the Holy Spirit. Allow me to elaborate: do you, as a father, desire to be a good provider? Allow the Holy Spirit to give you creative ideas at work or in your place of business. Do you, as a father, desire to lead your family in the right way? Allow Christ to strengthen your ability to have spiritual conversations at home.

Do you, as a father, desire to be the door to your children (as in letting in the good and keeping out the bad)? Allow the word of God, that you speak over them, to shape your children’s destiny, relationships, and identity. (The world system is trying its hardest to convince them of their identity. Don’t let it.) The Holy Spirit will help you become great like your Father.

This Father’s Day we celebrate and honor fathers everywhere. In James 1:17, it says, “every good and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” God the Father has given each father a perfect gift, His Holy Spirit. Receive this gift today and allow Him to make you into the perfect image of the Father. Dads, you are doing it and you CAN do it through Christ! Today, you can be the provider, leader, and door just like your heavenly Father.

Happy Father’s Day!
