Despite its simple name, Academy Award nominee ‘LION’ has taken the cinematic world by storm. Released in late November of 2016, the incredible film has garnered four Golden Globe nominations, as well as six Oscar nominations! The incredible performances from Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman, a fantastic original score, and masterful cinematography, LION is truly a work of art. No matter what happens on February 26th (Academy Awards), LION is the type of movie that will outrun its competition. It is timeless.
Adapted from the autobiography A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley, LION is about a five-year-old Indian boy who, after a wrong train takes him thousands of miles away from home and family, survives many challenges before being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, armed with only the scantest of clues, he learns of a new technology called Google Earth, and sets out to find his lost family. Following clues and discovering new things about himself, he starts his journey to the past.
This film is more appropriate than most. While it does have a sexually suggestive scene, profanity is mysteriously absent from this film. This fact alone makes LION is a breath of fresh air. Besides that, the violence the film does show is minimal, and gets lost in the story as the plot draws you in. LION is an Academy Award nominee that you will NOT want to miss!
