First aired in 2014, When Calls the Heart is based on Janette Oke’s book of the same name. It follows the journey of Elizabeth Thatcher, a young teacher who was raised in a 19th century upper-class family. Her first classroom assignment is in Coal Valley, a tiny coal mining town where life is kept simple and slow, but comes with its own challenges. Meanwhile, Abigail Stanton’s husband was recently killed in a mining accident. Her faith is tested as she works in the mine herself in order to provide for the family. As Elizabeth captivates the town with her charming personality, she must adapt and learn the ways of the frontier if she wants to thrive in the rural west!
When Calls the Heart has been extremely successful, exemplified by the raving reviews Season 3 earned. The finale of the last season pulled a 2.6 HH rating and, according to Nielsen stats, reached an audience of over 3 million viewers in within the first three days after it aired!
