A hit from 2015, The Intern stars Academy Award-winning actors Robert De Nero and Anne Hathaway. Ben Whittaker (DeNiro) is a 70-year-old widower who discovers life alone has become boring. He applies to an intern program for seniors and is placed at a fashion start-up. Ben shines in the program and is hired into the up-and-company company. Ben eventually ends up under the authority of CEO and founder, Jules Ostin (Hathaway).
Jules started this company in her home and grew it to a powerhouse of over 200 employees in less than two years. But her micromanaging style has cost her a lot in her home life, including the loyalty of her husband who agreed to be a stay-at-home dad. Throughout the challenges Jules faces, Ben becomes somewhat of a father figure, encourager, and confidante.
The film also stars Rene Russo (Lethal Weapon 4) as Ben’s eventual love interest, Adam Devine (Pitch Perfect), and veteran actress Linda Lavin (Alice).
The heartwarming movie is made even better by the fatherly and tender relationship that develops between Ben and Jules. This work dynamic and the inside look at business is a great film to watch over the long Labor Day weekend.
